Three generations · One shop

Hearthstone has been keeping Boulder warm since 2003.

A family-owned HVAC shop on Arapahoe — the same family who answered your neighbor's call in 2003 is answering yours today. Boulder homes, NATE-certified techs, no commission-driven upsells.

Our story

Why we started — and why we've never sold.

Hearthstone has kept Boulder County comfortable for 22 years. We're a family-owned shop — three generations of NATE-certified technicians who treat every home like their own. No commission-driven upsells, no surprise invoices: a flat $89 diagnostic that's waived the moment you approve the repair, and a written quote before any work begins.

Marcus started Hearthstone in 2003 with a single service van and a rule he's never broken: every customer gets a written quote before any work begins, and every tech on the truck works on salary, not commission. Twenty-two years later the family has grown — Elena runs the office, Jordan leads the installs, Priya runs senior service — but the rules haven't changed.

We've been pitched on franchising, on private-equity buyouts, on offshoring after-hours dispatch. We've said no every time. The reason customers stay with us across decades is that the same family that built this shop still answers the phone at it.

The team

Who you'll meet on a Hearthstone call.

Four people, three generations of one family plus the senior tech our repeat customers ask for by name.

  • Owner · Master Technician

    Marcus Hale

Founded the shop in 2003 after fifteen years as a Lennox factory-trained tech. Master HVAC certification, NATE-certified in air conditioning and gas heating. Still picks up the after-hours phone himself most nights.

  • Operations · 2nd generation

    Elena Hale-Vance

Marcus's daughter. Runs operations, scheduling, and pricing. Started answering phones at the shop in high school; took over operations in 2014 after a finance career in Denver. The reason quotes are written, not verbal.

  • Lead Installer · 3rd generation

    Jordan Hale

Elena's son. Third-generation Hale, leads the install crew. NATE-certified in air conditioning, gas heating, and air distribution. Specializes in cold-climate heat pumps and high-efficiency furnace installs.

  • Senior Service Technician

    Priya Kaur

Senior service tech, with us since 2017. NATE-certified across heating, cooling, and indoor air quality. The tech most often requested by repeat customers — patient on the phone, exact on the diagnosis.

How we work

Four rules we've never broken.

  • Flat-rate diagnostics, every call.

$89, waived when you approve the repair. No mileage fees, no inspection fees, no after-hours surcharges. The price you see is the price you pay.

  • Written quotes before tools come out.

We don't believe in verbal estimates or one-line invoices. Every job — repair, install, anything — gets a line-by-line written quote you approve before any work happens.

  • Salary, never commission.

Every tech on our team is salaried. Nobody on our payroll has a financial reason to upsell you on equipment you don't need. We hire for that reason, not in spite of it.

  • Real people on the phone — including 2am.

Our 24/7 emergency line is answered by a team member, not an offshore call center. Most after-hours calls are taken by Marcus, Elena, or Priya — same people who'll show up in the morning.
